Toby Around Town takes us to a true Cave Creek treasure: The Finer Arts Gallery, a place where local art, history, and community all come together under one roof.
The building itself dates all the way back to 1931, when it was known as the Idlewild General Store. Long before Cave Creek Road was paved, this little desert stop served the community with everything from canned goods and fresh produce to frozen meats.
In 1972, the building took on a new life as the beloved Treehouse Restaurant & Bar, a local hangout filled with Cave Creek charm and history. One of its most memorable features was the rooftop patio, reached by a staircase wrapped around two 150-year-old Tamarisk trees. Those same trees still grace the patio today, standing as living reminders of Cave Creek’s unique past.
Fast forward nearly 50 years to 2021, when eight artists partnered together to create The Finer Arts Gallery. Their vision was to showcase local, juried fine artists and bring a wide variety of professional art into one beautiful, welcoming space.
Today, The Finer Arts Gallery is more than just a gallery. It is a living piece of Cave Creek history, filled with accomplished local artists whose styles are as diverse and eclectic as Cave Creek itself. The gallery represents an incredible variety of work, including bronze, glass, oils, acrylics, custom jewelry, watercolor, graphite, and more.
With more than 4,000 square feet of display space, visiting the gallery feels like an adventure. Guests from around the world have experienced its casual charm, extensive collection, and welcoming atmosphere. It is the kind of place you can visit more than once and still discover something new each time.
One of the best ways to experience the gallery is during its Third Friday Social, held every third Friday of the month from 5 to 7 p.m. The public is invited to mingle with local artists while enjoying adult beverages, refreshments, and the warm, friendly spirit that makes Cave Creek so special.
